Dear Sylvan Union School District Staff and Families,

Happy New Year and we look forward to your return to school on Monday, January 11th. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your families and friends, whether it was in person or virtually. As we prepare for our return, I wanted to provide you with a few reminders and updates:

  1. The educational offerings for grades TK- 3 and Special Education SDC classes are status quo. The District will continue to offer both in-person and Sylvan SeLECT (Distance Learning) educational offerings. Students will continue to participate in the selection that was made for the Second Trimester. Families will have the opportunity to change their educational option for the Third Trimester.

  2. Unfortunately, the intended opening for in-person learning for students in grades 4-6 has been delayed until the District receives approval to reopen for these grades from the Stanislaus Public Health Officer. At this point there is no anticipated date when we will receive this approval. Grades 4-8 will continue to participate in the Sylvan SeLECT educational option.

  3. Due to the anticipated opening of grades 4 & 5 on January 19th, student instructional materials for distance learning were not distributed to these grades prior to the winter break. School sites will be contacting families regarding pick-up times for these materials next week.

  4. The District will continue to monitor our capacity to safely operate our school sites and programs due to the impact of employee absences, on a daily basis. A determination will be made by 7:00 a.m. each morning and staff and families will be notified if a site or program will be closed for that day. We are taking all possible steps to avoid a closure, but if staffing is unavailable it may be necessary to close.

Once again, we are looking forward to your return and wish you all the best as we move forward through these unprecedented times.

Regards,

Eric Fredrickson

Superintendent
